Woman in White

This woman and I couldn’t say a word to each other, save for a few polite pleasantries and smiles. Still, she insisted on giving my colleagues and I snacks and sweets from her tiny, dusty, and almost empty shop, when we came to monitor activity at an Israeli run checkpoint, in Palestinian East Jerusalem, which was just outside this lady’s front door.
